Trying new IUILE watercolors.
Shiny IUILE watercolors!

It's been a while since I've updated. The next class I will be teaching will be a Drawing Flowers class at Lauritzen Gardens in May.

What have I been working on? So much!!! I'm editing a newsletter for the PBS gardening show, GardenSMART. This has been a lot of fun- I love seeing new plant introductions and ideas for making gardening easier and more fun. If you enjoy that, too, I invite you to sign up for the newsletter on the GardenSMART website... it's free.

I'm also doing feature illustrations for Horticulture magazine in 2025. This is tremendous fun- I'm illustrating a different flower for each issue and giving you a look at what one of my sketchbook pages might be like for that flower.

The Jan/Feb issue of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine lists my third Honorable Mention for the Mysterious Photo contest. I need to get serious about mystery writing!

I'm still painting for the October show with my daughter at Lauritzen and will probably also exhibit with the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Great Plains Chapter later this year.

And I took a wonderful Italian hand calligraphy class with Heather Held last weekend. She is such a wonderful instructor. If you have an interest in pointed pen calligraphy or offhand flourishing, I highly recommend her class. I need to practice, but am excited about using this hand for a project that I hope to show you all soon. Anyway, Heather was using IUILE watercolors, and I was not familiar with them, so I ordered a small set and a dot card. My goodness, these are so much fun! The paints are incredibly sparkly and easy to use. They pass through a pen nib easily, too. And I love how the paints in the set look like loaves of bread that rose above their pans- definitely a generous amount of paint. The photo above is my trial of the set and the dot card. It also came with two very, very tiny sample pans. The photo above doesn't really do these paints justice. The black paper is Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress and the little watercolor paper card came with the paints. I've never outgrown my love for sparkle and this just makes me happy.

That's all for now- I'll update again soon. Keep observing nature and plants, and keep sketching! Thank you for being here.
